Roadmap #10: The Port to iRacing

Last time, I told you about the frustrations behind finding out that driver swaps were not available in LMU, forcing us to change plans. In this article, I'm taking you through the journey porting the app and the championship to iRacing.
Quite a lot has changed, both in the app and in the championship format to fit the iRacing platform.
The Format
Obviously, the cars in iRacing are different, so we had to adjust those. All GTP and GT3 cars in iRacing will be available in the DEC. The tracks do not need to change, as our calendar is fully supported by iRacing as well. What does change though is the maximum amount of cars. Because all of the tracks on our calendar allow at least 60 cars on track at the same time, we can increase the maximum amount of entries for the DEC from 38 to 60. While we don't expect that many entries at first, it's nice to not be bound by it.
And of course, the regulations needed rewriting. We've added custom liveries, as they're not hidden behind a paywall anymore, and we rewrote quite a few rules specifically for iRacing.
The App
In the app, we adjusted not by simply replacing the LMU stuff with iRacing, but adding it alongside LMU. That way, if driver swaps become available, we have the option to host something on LMU through our app without having to change a whole bunch of code again.
The Steam link requirement is now gone and replaced by submitting your iRacing Customer ID and optionally your licence, SR and iRating.
Automation
We intend to automate a lot at some point, but new Client IDs for the iRacing API and SDK are currently not available, so we'll have to wait for a bit and do it manually in the meantime.
When we do get access, it'll be as simple as logging in with your iRacing account and we'll fetch the rest automatically: your customer ID and your current ratings. We'll also sync your teams and their rosters. If a driver on your team on iRacing has an account on our app, they are added to your driver pool automatically. Inviting will not be required anymore. Just tell them to create an account on our app and the app will do the rest.
